Bell tunes up for U.S. 5k by winning 5th Nite Moves swim

The kids swam away from the pack and took the top two spots in the Nite Moves 1k swim Wednesday night at Leadbetter Beach.

Walker Bell, 13, won for the fifth time in a time of 13 minutes, 40 seconds, while Alex Valente, 14, came in second in 14:05. Oliva Smith, 13, was the second female finisher in 15:04.

Bell is preparing for the 5k swim at the U.S. Open Water Championships on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Adrienne Binder, the former Auburn swim star, was the first female finisher in 14:38.

Another teen, 15-year-old Addi Zerrenner of Dos Pueblos High, was the first female to cross the finish line in the 5k run. Her time was 18:59.

Santa Barbara’s Jason Smith, 32, won the 5k in 17:46

In the swim-run Aquathon, local triathlete Kyle Visin took first place in 36:43 (15:39 swim, 21:05 run).

The female winner was Dos Pueblos swim and cross country coach Leslie Roth in 43:05 (splits of 19:07, 21:58). She was sixth overall.
