Warriors drop second-round heartbreaker, 1-0

Catalina Maldonado’s dominating performance on the mound wasn’t enough for Carpinteria’s softball team on Tuesday as it dropped a 1-0 decision to Mayfield High in an eight-inning, CIF Division 6 second-round softball game at Pasadena on Tuesday.

Maldonado (16-6) finished off sophomore season by limiting Mayfield to only two hits in the game, while striking out six with no walks.

Unfortunately for Carpinteria, one of the two hits was a game-winning triple by Josie Luck in the eighth inning.

“I thought we played a good ball game overall. It was still disapointing we lost, considering we had the opportunity to win it,” said coach Henry Gonzales.

Mayfield’s Katherine Clancy pitched a complete-game, allowing only two hits while striking out eight.

The Warriors finish 20-6 for the year.

“I am proud of my girls and how everyone played hard this season. We worked hard and it shows with 20 wins this season,” praised Gonzales.
