Warriors clinch top spot in Frontier League

The Warriors improve to 17-3 this season.

Catalina Maldonado once again pitched a complete game for Carpinteria, but this time it was to clinch at least a share of the Frontier League softball  title as the Warriors topped Bishop Diego 6-1.

The Warriors (7-0) can win the title outright with a win at second-place Santa Clara (6-1) on Thursday at Santa Clara.

Maldonado struck out eight batters with no walks, and allowed just five hits in  seven innings. She moves to 13-3 in the season.

“I thought we played good softball all the way through. We played solid defense, and Catalina was tremendous on the mound,” said coach Henry Gonzales

Myriah Diaz, Roxanne Hugo, Ciera Kephart and Tatiana Verdugo each had a double for Carpinteria. Diaz also had a triple in the third inning to help score a run.

Carpinteria had 10 hits, matching their average for the season, said Gonzales

The Warriors plays San Marcos Wednesday before their pivitol league match-up Thursday. They moved to 17-3 overall and 7-0 in league.
