Reveles, Avila smash Buena 10-5

Steven Reveles didn’t wait long to jumpstart the Dos Pueblos offense on Tuesday against Buena, belting a home run on the very first pitch of the game for the second time this season.

Reveles’ homer would be an indication of what was to come from Dos Pueblos for the remainder of the game. The Chargers (6-2) won 10-5 at Buena, giving them some breathing room at second place in the Channel League.

Porferio Avila added a monster three-run home run of his own in the fifth inning, part of a five- run scoring spree.

Joe Huthsing pitched a solid four innings, allowing two earned runs and five hits while striking out three

Luke Loggins closed out the final three innings by striking out two, and didn’t allow a run or a walk, diminishing any hope from Buena of a successfull comeback attempt.

After the solo home run on the opening pitch, the Chargers erupted for four runs in the second. Colin Cole began the inning with a double, followed by a Daniel Vickers walk. After Johnny Corazza hit a line-drive single to left field to load the bases, Dylan Rohde hit the ball over the second baseman’s head to score one run.

Three more runs came in off a single from Reveles and a RBI double by Ben York, Rohde scored on a passed ball to bring the score to 5-0

Buena responded in the fourth, scoring three runs to cut the score to 5-4.

Avila stepped up in the fifth inning and blasted a three-run homer, after three consecutive walks in the inning.  Corazza hit a line drive between the third baseman and the shortstop to score two more runs.

“I was very happy how we responded in the top of the fifth inning after Buena came back to make it 5-4,” said DP coach Nate Mendoza.

Corazza finished 2-4  with 2 runs  and 2 RBIs, while Cole went 1-3 with 2 scored runs.
