Neushul, Nguyen nab 7th place finishes at CIF D-1 finals

Kiley Neushul and Janelle Nguyen of Dos Pueblos posted the highest finishes of the local swimmers competing in the CIF Division 1 finals at Belmont Plaza Pool on Friday night.

Neushul finished seventh in the 100 backstroke in 57.73, improving on her qualifying mark of 5790. Ngyuen equaled her qualifying mark in th 100 butterfly and  finished seventh in 57.32.

In other championship finals, the Santa Barbara girls 200 freestyle relay team (Makenzy Fowler, Dana Sloan, Madeline Trabucco, Kelsey O’Brien) finished eighth in 1:40.28. The team entered the competition seeded 22nd.

The Dos Pueblos boys 400 free relay (Chase Racich, Nic Lum, Theo Coyne, and Josh Pighetti) improved on their qualifying time (3:12.78) and finish eighth in 3:12.05.

In consolation finals, DP’s 400 free relay took first place; the 200 free relay nabbed second in 1:38.88; Emily Rose Williams placed fourth in the 50 free (24.44); Neushul finished seventh in the 200 free (1:54.11); Nguyen was eighth in the 500 free (5:09.40); the boys 200 free relay came in eighth (1:28.86).

Santa Barbara finished eighth in the 400 free relay.

In team competition, Dos Pueblos’ girls finished 12th and the boys 18th.
