Maldonado helps solidify Warriors first-place finish in Frontier League

Catalina Maldonado took care of business in her final regular season game of the year, pitching a one-hit shutout against Villanova to help Carpinteria softball win its Senior Day, 24-0.

Maldonado struck out nine in four innings of the five-inning mercy rule game. She is 15-5 for the season.

With the win, Carpinteria finished first place in the Frontier League with a record of 9-1.

The Warriors were able to dominate offensively with 24 runs off 21 hits.

Seniors Roxy Hugo and Amy Avila both  had great games at the plate. Hugo was 4-for-5 with an amazing 9 RBIs from two triples and two doubles. Avila finished 3-4 with 3 RBIs.

Senior Myriah Diaz closed the game for the Warriors, allowing no runs or hits in the final inning.

“I thought our focus was good and we played well,” coach Henry Gonzales said. “We really hit the ball well, and it was Senior Day, so we were able to get all our seniors out there.”

Carpinteria is 19-5 overall.

“We are looking forward to the playoffs with good positive feelings,” said Gonzales.
