Madison, Katz-Handley romp in DP wild-card victory

Jared Madison lost only two games and Richard Cheng grinded out a tough win in the second round and went 3-0 in sets to lead the Dos Pueblos boys tennis team to a 13-5 win over visiting Simi Valley in a CIF Division 1 wild-card match on Tuesday.

The Chargers (11-7) advance into today’s first round at second-seeded Palos Verdes.

Madison breezed on the home courts, winning 6-1, 6-0, 6-1. Cheng lost a 5-2 lead, but kept his composure and won his second-round set 7-5. He won 6-2, 6-1 in his other sets

In doubles, DP’s No. 1 team of Eric Katz-Sean Handley made fast work of their opponents, winning 6-1, 6-1, 6-0. Jake Roberts-Caleb Franzen overcame an 0-5 deficit in their second-round match and won 7-6 in a tiebreaker en route to a 3-0 day.
