Harris pitches 11-inning shutout to put DP in semifinals

Dos Pueblos’s Hannah Harris  came away with her fifth straight shutout win, and third in a row in the playoffs.

Harris pitched a no-hitter for nine consecutive innings in an 11-inning, 1-0 victory at Ocean View High in the quarterfinals o the Division 4 CIF softball playoffs on Thursday in Huntington Beach.

Harris and the Chargers’ defense has shut out their opponents in last 39 innings of play, a big reason why they find themselves one win away from reaching the final.

“We played as a team today. They kept on coming strong and we didnt allow them to score,” said coach Donn Roberts.

The Chargers were finally able to connect offensively in the 11th. Chloe Madill singled to right field, and moved to third after a single from Harris. Jordan Roberts hit a timely single to score Madill for the decisive run.

Ocean View had a chance to answer back, but the Chargers defense finished what they started with a game-ending double play.

“Ashlynd Williams at first base did a stellar job staying on the bag and using her athleticism to make some spectacular plays on defense,” praised Roberts.

Harris (20-9) struck out eight, walked two, and allowed only three hits in 11 innings.

Dos Pueblos travels to San Bernardino to face Aquinas High on Tuesday for the semi-final round.
