Brothers provide dual attack for Rams in CIF opener

An efficient 12 runs off 12 hits was more than enough to advance Cate baseball to the second round of the CIF Division 7 playoffs, after a 12-1 ousting of St. Monica Academy in the first round on Friday.

Brothers Robert and Carlos Fairbanks combined to finish 6-8 at the plate with 4 RBIs and 3 scored runs.

Robert  finished 3-4 at the plate, with 2 RBIs and one run.

Carlos Fairbanks was 3-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs.

Robert Fairbanks also pitched the first five innings for the Rams, holding St. Monica scoreless while striking out eight. Fairbanks moved to 6-1 after the hot first-round win.

“All aspects of our game played-out well for us. We had great hitting and great pitching today,” said coach Ben Soto.

Justin Lucchesi closed out the final two innings, allowing one run and two hits.
