DP advances to CIF Finals; Dons falter at divisional tourney

Carson Curtis and Brett Patton each shot under 80 in howling winds to help the Dos Pueblos boys golf team finish second at the CIF-SS Central Coast Divisional and qualify for the CIF-SS Team Championships.

Meanwhile, defending state champion Santa Barbara had its season come to an end as it finished tied for fifth place at the tournament at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.

Righetti won its first CIF team golf title, finishing with a total of 393. Dos Pueblos shot 401 and Ventura 402 to complete CIF Finals berths. Camarillo was fourth at 403 and Santa Barbara and Rio Mesa tied for fifth at 408. Sixteen teams competed in the divisional.

“The scores were abnormally high for this divisional due to onshore winds in the 15-30 mph range. Some gusts of winds were occasionally higher,” said tournament director Aaron Solis.

Reilly McMahon of Righetti was the tournament medalist with a 1-over 73. Magregor Hoobery shot a 74 and Landon Brown fired a 76 for the Warriors.

Sean Searls shot a 74 for Santa Barbara, but his teammates struggled in the windy conditions. James Morton was the next lowest Don with an 81.

Dos Pueblos, which finished second to Santa Barbara in the Channel League, got an 80 from Grant Amerson, an 82 from Michael Yi, an 83 from Nick DeHeras and an 85 from Lane Fuller.

The CIF Team Championships are Thursday at Mission Lakes Country Club in Desert Hot Springs.
