Cate falls short in quarterfinals

Santa Ynez senior Miles Seemann swept in singles and the Pirates’ doubles team of Tyler Dalo and Alex Aichiner scored a pair of key wins, leading them to a victory over visiting Cate School in a CIF Divison 4 quarterfinal tennis match.

The teams tied 9-9 in sets, but the wins by Seemann and the doubles team helped make the difference for Santa Ynez, as it prevailed in total games 74-69.

Seemann beat Cate’s No. 1 Blake Mackall, 6-3, and posted 6-0, 6-0 in his other sets. Dalo-Arichiner notched 6-2, 6-3 wins over Chris Lin-Grant Redmond and Gregory Mak-Ahmed Bou-Rabee, respectively, giving the Pirates a huge lift.

Cate’s Jason Park-Austin Lokre went unbeaten, defeating Dalo-Aichiner in a tiebreaker, 7-4, and topping Alex Saunders-Nico Naretto, 6-3, and Clint Gioia-Patrick Good, 6-1.

The left-handed Mackall won his other two singles sets 6-0.

Cate finishes the season at 9-8. Santa Ynez, which beat the Rams in an earlier match, 12-6, advances to the semifinals against Laguna Beach.
