Carpinteria’s Requejo in Croatia with U.S. under-15 squad

Carpinteria freshman sensation Johnny Requejo has been named to the U.S. Under-15 national team that will be conducting a 10-day training camp in Zagreb, Croatia this month, U.S. Soccer announced Tuesday.

Requejo, who is a defender on the national team, is one of 20 players on the roster.

The training camp also will include a pair of friendly matches against Croatia on May 10 and 12.

Requejo was an all-CIF central midfielder for the Carpinteria High boys team that advanced to the CIF Division 5 final. He plays his club soccer for the Santa Barbara Soccer Club.

He is one of five players from California on the U15 national team.

This is the first of two European trips for Requejo this year. Later in the summer he’ll be going to England to play in Manchester United’s youth tournament. He will be on loan to FC Arsenal out of the Ontario-Fontana area, said his high school coach Danny Torres.
