Warriors come up short against. St. Bonaventure

Starting pitcher Victor Garcia, pitched five strong innings for the Warriors.

Carpinteria couldn’t come up with the clutch hit against St. Bonaventure’s Josh Grajeda and wound up on the short end of a 3-2 score in a Tri-Valley League  baseball game on Wednesday at home.

“We’re disappointed we didn’t win, but we gave ourselves a chance to win,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said.

The Warriors had the tying runs on base in the sixth and seventh innings, but Grajeda came up with clutch pitches to deny them.

“He got the best of us,” said Cooney.

Grajeda struck out 12, walked two and allowed only three hits.

St. Bonaventure took a 1-0 lead on a home run in the top of the third, but Carpinteria tied the score in the bottom of the inning. Alex Rodriguez singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and reached third on a single by Victor Garcia. Garcia broke for second, drawing a throw from the St. Bonaventure, and Rodriguez ran home for the run.

The Seraphs tallied two runs in the fifth for a 3-1 lead.

Jose Carrillo made it 3-2 with a two-out, RBI single in the sixth.

Carpinteria (5-5, 1-2) plays at St. Bonaventure (3-1 in league) on Friday.
