Vaqueros clinch second with 8-1 win

Anna Slyutova dominated the third set to earn the decisive fifth point on Tuesday and SBCC swept the doubles in an 8-1 women’s tennis victory at Bakersfield.

The Vaqueros (9-3, 7-2) clinched second place in the WSC for the second straight year. They’ve won three in a row and six out of seven.

Slyutova, a sophomore from Dos Pueblos High, beat Jennifer Chan 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-1 at No. 5 singles. She also teamed with Meike van Hoogenhuijze for an 8-3 doubles win.

The Vaqueros will host Hancock in their final WSC match on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
