Royals take advantage of Santa Paula errors

San Marcos capitalized on Santa Paula errors and pulled out a 4-2 non-league softball win on Wednesday.

With the score tied at 2-2, Amy Medina drew a lead-off walk in the third inning. Two errors by the Santa Paula infield enabled to score the go-ahead run.

The Royals (5-3) added an insurance run in the fourth. Perez singled and scored after hits by Stephanie Swann and Jocelyn Flattery.

Santa Paula took a 2-0 lead in the third, but San Marcos bounced back and tied the score in the bottom of the inning. Emily Dietz walked and Flattery singled, and both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Swann.

Kristen Berlo hit a one hopper deep to short and the Santa Paula shortstop threw Dietz out at home, leaving Flattery on third and Berlo on first.  Berlo stole second, and both Flattery and Berlo scored on a  hit by Hannah Ball that was misplayed by the Santa Paula second baseman.

Berlo went the distance for San Marcos, striking out 12.
