Owls regroup from 2-1 deficit, beat Carpinteria in five

Pascal Karam returned to the starting lineup for Laguna Blanca and played a solid match to lead the Owls to a five-game non-league volleyball win over Carpinteria on Tuesday night. The game scores were 25-19, 18-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-11.

Karam, who had been sidelined with a sprained ankle, pounded 13 kills, had 18 digs and two blocks.

Jack Stegall contributed 11 kills, 10 digs and two aces; Parker Lilly had 5 kills, 3 aces, and 25 digs and Jeff Nelson had a career-high 6 kills on 7 attempts and 3 blocks.

“We started of the way we wanted to in Game One,” Laguna coach Dillan Bennett said. “Our passing was there and we could run an offense. Our guys got a little too overconfident in Game Two, which led to us losing all momentum in both games two and three. All consistency was lost, so we tried a new lineup. Turns out the lineup switch was what we needed and we played our brand of volleyball to end the match.”

Bennett lauded Carpinteria’s defense for giving his team trouble.

Laguna Blanca (3-4) had two team highs in the stats category with16 blocks and 75 digs.

Laguna has a two-week layoff and will return to the court on April 16th at the Viewpoint Tournament in Calabasas.
