Owls play different positions in sweep over Cate

Laguna Blanca mixed up its lineup and still got good results, beating Cate 25-13, 25-11, 25-20 in a Condor League boys volleyball match on Wednesday.

Spencer Dusebout had 14 kills, six digs and two aces to pace the Owls’ attack. Jeff Nelson added four aces, two blocks and two kills and Ryan Ortiz contributed two kills and one block.

“Today we mixed it up with our lineup and made volleyball fun for our guys,” Laguna coach Dillan Bennett said. “We had our setters hitting, middles playing outside, and outsides playing libero and middle. It really helped the guys learn the game and appreciate how good they are at their own position. They now understand how it feels to set, play the back row, and have to block. All together, we got better tonight.”

Bennett praised the play of Nelson.

“He helped us in every position: hitting, blocking and especially serving. He served better than anybody tonight. He is a great example of a kid who works hard and makes the most out of his playing time.”

Laguna plays Dunn on Saturday at 11 a.m.
