Maya makes things happen in Santa Barbara win

Jazmin Maya had two hits, stole two bases, scored two runs and made big plays on on defense to help the Santa Barbara softball team beat Channel Islands 8-4 in a non-league game on Wednesday.

“She was a sparkplug for us today at the plate, on the bases and running down balls in center field,” said Santa Barbara coach Alex Sheldon.

Maya stole second and third after singling in the second inning and scored on a RBI single by Ariana Leos. She also stole a base in the sixth and was driven in by Angela Biancone.

Sheldon said Biancone “was flawless in her first career start at shortstop.”

Sheila Lopez went 2-4 for the Dons.

“We played good team softball today and our aggressive approach at the plate got the bats going.  This was a good win for us to build off of,” said Sheldon.
