Laguna followed up the victory by splitting sets with Holy Martyrs, 20-25, 25-21. The Owls lost the third match in two sets to Windward, 25-16, 25-14.

“Today was a great success for our team. Our guys proved that they can compete with the top teams in Division 4 and 5. We have worked hard this season and this is a great payoff,” said coach Dillan Bennett.

Spencer Dusebout led the way for the Owls with 42 kills and 27 digs in seven sets. Peter Sorensen pitched in 17 kills with four blocks, also in seven sets.

Bennett and the Owls look forward to their first league game this Wednesday against Cate.

“”This week we are going to work hard on our defense and our blocking, which is where teams took advantage of us today. We have our first league game against Cate on Wednesday and a big rematch against Windward on Saturday. We got a chance to play them today, so we will be better prepared for them this weekend.”
