Home runs lift Warriors over Cardinals

Carpinteria softball displayed a hitting frenzy by combining for three two-run homers in the Frontier League game to help beat Bishop Diego 12-2 in a 5-inning mercy-rule game.

Catalina Maldonado, Sarah Carrillo and Roxanne Hugo each homered, and Carpinteria combined for seven runs in the seventh in the offensive blowout.

“I thought the first couple innings we started slow. After that we started hitting the ball well and finishing the game strong,” said Carpinteria coach Henry Gonzales. “We had three home runs that were well over the fence.”

Maldonado, who came off a recent no-hitter performance last week, pitched a complete game for the Warriors. She struck out five and allowed only four hits, moving to 9-3 in the season.

Carpinteria rapped out 15 hits off Bishop pitching.

With the win, Carpinteria remains undefeated in the Frontier League, and look to keep the streak going against Villanova on Thursday
