Hill keeps it going, but Cate falls short against Newport

After coming off a dominant seven-goal performance on Friday, Alexis Hill kept her hot streak burning on Saturday by scoring five goals and earning five draw controls in a 14-9 loss to Newport Harbor in a non-league girls lacrosse game.

The game was tied 4-4 at the half, and Cate kept within two goals until the final eight minutes.

“Although there were great moments, maybe we were just spent after the great game yesterday,” said coach Linda Sommers. “The team played really well for much of the game, but we just couldn’t maintain our zip.  We will rest up tomorrow and look forward to a good game Tuesday”

Annie Weis contributed two goals, one assist, and two draw controls. Brennan Cusack had one goal, one assist and one draw control.

Goalie Alexx Temena made eight saves for the day.

Cate dropped to 9-3 overall and begins playoffs next Tuesday.
