CIF Polls: Softball teams reaching new heights

Dos Pueblos’ and Carpinteria’s softball teams attained their highest CIF ranking of the season on Monday, as the Warriors jumped to No. 3 in Division VI while the Chargers leaped over Buena in Division IV to No. 7.

Dos Pueblos pocketed a 2-0 Channel League victory over the Bulldogs last Tuesday as Hannah Harris limited Buena to five hits. It was the Chargers’ first win over Buena in their last eight meetings. The Bulldogs slid from No. 6 to No. 8.

“This is the first win against Buena in two years,” said DP coach Donn Roberts after the victory. “And, it’s the first time in three years Buena has not been in first place.”

The Warriors, meanwhile, are 7-3 on the season and defeated Santa Paula 10-1 in their only game last week. Carpinteria is back in action on Monday when they host Santa Ynez. The Warriors are looking up at No. 1 Kern Valley & No. 2 Calvary Chapel.

In baseball, Santa Barbara High remained the No. 1 team in Division II with a record of 10-2. The Dons split two games at the Lions Tournament in Anaheim after claiming a 3-1 Channel League victory over Ventura earlier in the week.

Bishop Diego’s baseball team received votes in Division VI but remains just outside the top ten. The 5-1 Cardinals jumped on Santa Paula 9-1 in their only game last week.

Santa Barbara High’s boys volleyball team and boys tennis team are ranked in Division I. Neither team was in action last week because of spring break, with the Dons volleyball team coming in at No. 10  and the tennis team at No. 7.
