Carpinteria wins first league game

Carpinteria softballl won its first Tri-Valley League softball match-up against Santa Clara on Thursday, 5-1.

Catalina Maldonado pitched a complete game for the Warriors.

Carpinteria started the game off with a 3-1 lead after the first inning, with help from a two-run double by Myriah Diaz after a single by Maldonado, and a triple by Sarah Carrillo.

Carrillo also had a double, and Diaz finished with two doubles.

“I thought we hit the ball well and hard, though our fielding was not as good as we would have liked,” said coach Henry Gonzales.

Carpinteria moves to 9-3 overall, 1-0  in league play.

The Warriors’  next game is at Santa Paula on Tuesday.
