Carpinteria places second for the day, remains first overall

Carpinteria golf held on to its No. 1 spot in the Frontier League halfway though the season with a second-place finish at Montecito Country Club  on Tuesday.

The Warriors shot 479, three shots behind first-place Villanova.

The three stroke difference goes a long way in the league standings, as Carpinteria leads the Wildcats by only one point, 17-16

Third-place Santa Clara finished  with a score of 480, while fourth-place Fillmore was 494 for the day.Bishop Diego topped fifth place Santa Paula by six strokes, 532-538 to round off the day.

Alex Warner led the way for the Warriors, shooting a team-low 85. Mak Vincent finished second for Carpinteria with a 93.

The day’s medalist was Villanova’s Miles Delamora, who shot just one stroke under Warner with an 84.

“Alex Warner played some of his best golf on a tough course,” said coach Steve Benson. “I was pleased with all the kids, no one quit on me today.”

Carpinteria’s overall record is 16-4.
