Cardinals end the week on a high note

Bishop Diego topped Santa Clara 9-2 on Friday with a solid offensive performance.

Hank Vanderfin pitched a complete game for the Cardinals, allowing just four hits and striking out three. Vanderfin moved to 2-0

Bishop Diego scored its first five runs in the second inning. Both John Salda and Vanderfin were on base due to errors. Reese Moulton then hit a single to score Salda, while Jacob Salcedo hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Vanderfin. Sam Kwock pitched in with a single to score Moulton, and Jack Gregson hit a triple to bring in Dakotah Sutton to finish out the inning with a 5-0 lead.

Santa Clara scored one run in the fifth and sixth.

“It was a good game for us. We played three league games this week and won two. Overall is was a good week for us,” said coach Dan Yokubaitis.

Bishop Diego moved to 8-3 overall, and 5-1 in league. Next game is Wednesday against Carpinteria at home.
