San Marcos falls behind early in loss to Buena

San Marcos High baseball was shut out on Thursday, losing 12-0 to Buena High.

Buena scored five runs in both the first and second inning, and banged out 11  hits in the game. San Marcos managed to gather four.

“We didn’t play very good defensively. We had a lot of mental mistakes,” explained coach Tony Vanetti. “Coming back from five down is hard against a team like Buena.”

Buena used several bunts, a walk, multiple singles and a crucial error to score its five runs in the first inning.

R.J. Dietz led the way for Buena with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.

Jesse Gruenberg, who came in the sixth, had the only strikeout of the game for the Royals. Will Proctor started, and falls to 0-2.

With the loss, San Marcos moves to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the Channel League.

The Royals host Dos Pueblos on Friday.
