Westmont women edged by Mesa State

Playing in the Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage during spring break, the Westmont women’s tennis team was edged out by Mesa State of Colorado by a score of 5-4. The Warriors won three singles matches, but dropped two of the three doubles.

At No. 1 singles, senior Ilissa Mathews cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kelleen Sera while at number two, Tara Yekrang defeated Victoria Sargent 7-5, 6-2. The Warriors’ Jenna Nelson earned the third singles win, defeating Kate Lowder 3-6, 6-4 and 10-5 in a superbreaker.

Mathew and Yekrang picked up the lone doubles point for the Warriors (1-9) with an 8-4 victory over Lowder and Sargent on the number one court.
