UCSB collecting shoes to support relief effort in Japan

As it did following the earthquake in Haiti, UCSB Athletics will team up with Soles4Souls and help collect gently worn shoes, which will be distributed in Japan and other areas of need. The effort is part of the Gauchos Give community outreach initiative.

To donate gently worn shoes, bring them to the Intercollegiate Athletics Building Hall of Champions Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. prior to April 9.

The Gauchos will also be collecting shoes at this weekend’s home men’s volleyball, softball and baseball games. The men’s volleyball team plays on Thursday against UC San Diego at 7 p.m. and on Friday against UC Irvine at 7 p.m. in Robertson Gymnasium.

The softball team will play a three-game series against Cal State Fullerton beginning with a noon doubleheader on Saturday and concluding with a single game at noon on Sunday at Campus Diamond.

The baseball team will play a three-game series against San Jose State at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium; game times are 3 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Fans that bring shoes to this weekend’s volleyball, softball or baseball games will receive a $5 discount off of any item over $10 at the Gauchos Shop.

If you cannot make it to the UCSB campus to drop off shoes, they are also being collected at Sport Chalet.
