Sun Devil bats pound Gauchos

TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 5 Arizona State exploded for 11 runs in the fifth inning and routed UCSB 11-3 in the Sun Devils’ annual Pink-Out Event for over 1,400 fans.

UCSB drops to 12-13 on the season while the Sun Devils are now 32-2 overall on the year, and pitcher Dallas Escobedo improving to 15-1.

UCSB led 3-1 in the fourth inning before the Sun Devils went on a rampage.

It started in the fifth as Sam Parlich singled and senior Krista Donnenwirth sent a shot to left field for a two-run homer to tie the score.

That was all the spark the Sun Devils needed. Mandy Urfer hit her sixth home run of the season with a grand slam to left which put ASU up 7-3. Donnenwirth struck again with a three-RBI double to make it 10-3 with only one out on the board.

For a nightcap and to finish the scoring melee, Alix Johnson slapped a single to left field for the last run needed to lock up their 20th run-rule win of the year.
