Shorthanded Owls swept by No. 3 Salesian

The learning process continues for the Laguna Blanca boys volleyball team.

The inexperienced Owls took on No. 3-ranked (CIF Division 5) Salesian on Friday night and were swept, 25-14, 25-21, 25-20.

“Tonight was another learning experience for our guys,” first-year coach Dillan Bennett said. “Salesian has a great volleyball program and has won CIF, which is something we hope to achieve in the future.”

Spencer Dusebout led Laguna Blanca with eight kills and four digs. Parker Lilly had four kills and 14 digs and Peter Sorensen added three kills and two blocks.

The Owls were shorthanded for the game.

“Coach (Matt) Schroeder and I decided to bring up two freshman tonight for the match because we were missing two starters who went on spring break early,” Bennett said. “Colton Johnson and Cuyler Zimmermann did a wonderful job in their first of many varsity appearances.”

The Owls will play in the Dos Pueblos Invitational on Saturday.

“We are going out there to get better and learn to compete at a high level,” said Bennett.
