San Marcos pounds Channel Islands, 16-0

Kristen Berlo drove in six runs, and San Marcos rapped out 17 hits in a 16-0 rout of Channel Islands in a non-league softball game.
 
San Marcos sent nine players to the plate in the first inning and scored five runs.

The Royals continued to pound the ball in the second inning. Jocelyn Flattery, Stephanie Swann, Berlo and Hannah Ball had consecutive hits to score three more runs. Berlo scored the fourth run on a single by Hannah Johnson, who was 2-for-3 on the day with two RBIs.
 
In the third, three consecutive singles and a double by Berlo resulted in two more runs. Three hits, a walk and two errors led to five more runs in the fourth inning.
 
Flattery, Swann, Berlo and Ball were all 3 for 4 with one double apiece and at least 1 RBI. Ball had 2 RBIs. Amy Medina, Angel Mermis and Maria Perez all collected one single apiece.
 
Defensively, Berlo went the distance (5 innings on 10-run mercy rule) with 10 strikeouts, no walks and one hit batter.
 
San Marcos is 2-1 and plays host to Santa Ynez on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
