Gonzalez sparks Bishop to sweep over Carpinteria

Brandon Gonzalez is getting the hang of playing volleyball.

The Bishop Diego football standout served up six aces and pounded five kills to lead the  Cardinals to a 25-19, 25-18, 25-16 non-league win over Carpinteria on Wednesday night.

“He was ready to go tonight and played some good volleyball,” Bishop coach Jason Donnelly said.

Johnny Brand led Bishop with nine kills, five digs and two service aces.

The Cardinals improve to 6-3. They’ll play host to Cathedral City on Friday before playing in the Dos Pueblos Invitational on Saturday at UCSB.
