Gauchos go for four straight in conference

The Gauchos extended their Big West Conference winning streak to four matches Sunday with a 5-2 victory over visiting Cal State Fullerton at the Robertson Gymnasium Courts on campus.

Fullerton was forced to default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles due to injury giving Santa Barbara an immediate advantage. However, the Titans came out strong dominating the No. 1 doubles match and giving the Gauchos a run for their money at court No. 2 before falling 8-6.

In singles, the Gauchos took the first three matches at courts No. 5, No. 4 and No. 2 to clinch the match. Kiersten Meehan played near perfect tennis in her 6-0, 6-0 victory over Katie Nichols and Sofia Novak surrendered only one game in her match against Morgan McIntosh winning 6-1, 6-0.

The two heroes from Saturday’s match against Cal State Northridge Natalia Lozano and Jordan Dockendorf couldn’t quite finish off their opponents against Fullerton. Lozano dropped her match to Tiffany Mai 2-6, 6-4, (10-7) and Dockendorf fell short in her match against Monica Rodriguez 2-6, 7-5, (10-7).

The next match for the Gauchos is against UT Arlington Sunday, March 20 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Robertson Gymnasium Courts on campus.
