DP honors 11 student-athletes headed to Division 1 schools

Dos Pueblos celebrated the signing of 11 student-athletes with NCAA Division 1 schools in a special ceremony at Sovine Gym on Wednesday.

Water polo players dominated the list of signees with four players from the girls CIF Division 1 championship team and three members of the boys semifinal squad.

Other sports represented are football, cross country, track and field, and swimming.

John Dunion, a lineman on the Channel League champion Chargers football team, signed to attend Yale in the fall.

Sergey Sushchikh, who led the DP cross country team to a top 10 finish at the CIF State Meet, is headed to UCLA.

Sushchikh will be joined at UCLA by Nicholas Scarvelis, the top shot putter in the state and the seventh best discus thrower.

From the Charger swimming team, Emily Foster signed with Northern Colorado University. Foster was recruited for the breaststroke and individual medley.

Two members of the boys water polo team will be playing collegiate water polo at home, as Chase Racich and Derek Shoemaker both signed with UCSB.
