DP comes back big to take down Ventura

Dos Pueblos' Jay Larinan smashes a kill against Ventura High School

Setter Jacob Badish sets a fellow Charger.

Dos Pueblos’ volleyball team earned a big comeback win against Ventura, 20-25, 18-25, 25-21, 28-26, 15-10, handing the Cougars their first loss in league play.

Gabe Burdick led Dos Pueblos with 22 kills, while Mansai Conner pitched in seven kills and two blocks, though several other players stepped up big time to help in the Chargers victory, said coach Chris Hughes.

Sophomore Jackson Wopat had three blocks, two kills, and three digs, along with an ace that won the final game.

“Wopat played outstanding for us. He had two critical kills, and played overall excellent volleyball tonight.” Hughes said.

Ventura High’s leading player and Ohio State prospect, 6-7 Michael Henchy, proved ineffective against the Chargers with help from Keaton Arutian.

“Arutian also played outstanding for us. He helped to stop their star player Henchy,” said Hughes. “It was like the Clash of the Titans out there, big-time volleyball, a good match.”

Dos Pueblos improves to 9-7 overall and 1-0 in Channel League.
