Doubles teams spark Gauchos to 6-1 win over Portland

The No. 59-ranked UCSB women’s tennis team concluded a stretch of six consecutive non-conference matches, with a 6-1 victory over University of Portland Thursday, at the Robertson Gymnasium Courts on campus.

The Gauchos are now 11-7 overall after going 2-4 in the non-conference stretch.

For the second time in three matches the Gauchos swept the doubles point and never looked back. Jordan Dockendorf and Natalia Lozano set the pace winning their third straight match (8-5) at No. 1 doubles. Kiersten Meehan and Paola Cos won in their debut  together at No. 2 doubles and The No. 3 team of Erica Cano and Casey Reede won their match 8-4 giving the Gauchos the sweep.

In singles,  Lozano and Meehan won their matches without surrendering a game at courts No. 1 and No. 5 respectively as they were both 6-0, 6-0 winners.

Jordan Dockendorf was forced to retire in her match at court No. 3 due to a wrist injury, giving Portland their only point of the match.

The Gauchos will take a week off before returning to Big West Conference play with matches at UC Davis Saturday, April 9 and at Pacific Sunday, April 10.
