Chargers dig deep, pull out win over SLO

Dos Pueblos won seven of nine doubles sets, and Sean Handley won a three-set thriller in singles to help the Chargers defeat San Luis Obispo 12-6 in a non-league boys tennis match on Tuesday.

“We started off quickly in the first round and led 5-1, but in the second round, the momentum shifted,” DP coach Liz Frech reported. “We lost a little focus and split sets.  Two of the sets in that round went the distance, and one went to a tiebreaker. By the third round we regrouped and took four sets to close out the match.”

DP was missing three starters due to injury, illness and Mock Trial competition.

Handley fought back to win his third set and finished 3-0 in singles.

“Overall, our strength rested in the dubs, as we snagged seven of the nine sets,” said Frech. “Our senior team of Eric Katz and Ziyad Marcus swept, losing only six games for the day.

“I was impressed by our players and their support of one another.”
