Carpinteria’s season comes to an end in regionals

Carpinteria’s incredible soccer run ended Tuesday in the Central Valley town of Mendota.

The Warriors lost 2-1 in overtime against the Central Section champions in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern California Division 3 Regional Championship. The winning goal came five minutes into the 15-minute overtime on a shot from 20 yards.

“It was a pretty nice goal, you have to give the kid some credit,” said Carpinteria coach Daniel Torres.

Mendota jumped on the Warriors early, scoring its first goal five minutes into the game on a free kick from 30 yards.

“That kind of got us going,” said Torres.

The Warriors battled back and got the equalizer from freshman Johnny Requejo.

But they could never get the upper hand against a talented Mendota team (27-1-1).

“We weren’t focused enough in the box to put things away,” said Torres.

The Warriors finish the year at 20-5-3.

“It was a nice little run,” said Torres.
