Carpinteria pitchers shut out Santa Clara

Three Carpinteria pitchers combined on a one-hitter, and the Warriors rapped out five doubles in blanking Santa Clara 7-0 in a non-league baseball game on Wednesday.

Carpinteria jump on Santa Clara with six runs in the first inning. Victor Garcia started it off with a double and Marcus Hutchinson followed with a RBI double. Alifonso Delgado had a two-run single in the inning.

“Their guy was an off-speed pitcher and our guys did a good job hitting the ball to the opposite field,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said.

Hutchinson led a 12-hit assault, going 3-4 with two doubles, a RBI and two runs scored; Jose Carrillo went 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and run scored; Delgado went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored and Trevor Madden had two hits.

On the mound, starter Colton Rubio threw four innings of no-hit ball, striking out five and walking two. Delgado struck out four and allowed the only hit in two innings and Max Damron pitched a hitless seventh.

Carpinteria (3-3) plays at Cabrillo on Friday.
