Warriors clinch TVL title outright

Ismael Soriano racked up four goals for Carpinteria’s boys soccer team on Monday, boosting the Warriors to a 5-2 victory over Malibu that clinched the Tri-Valley League title outright for Carpinteria.

Soriano scored twice in each half and now has 23 for the season. Sergio Ortega scored the Warriors’ third goal to give Carpinteria a 3-2 edge at halftime.

“I told the boys if we want to do something important, we have to finish these off,” said Carpinteria head coach Danny Torres. “They wanted to win, they didn’t want to share a title with anyone.”

Torres was sure to point out the value of having six sophomores and a freshman playing solid minutes together in the second half.

“That wa a positive, they are the future of the program,” Torres said.

Carpinteria (15-3-3) will be the No. 1 team from the Tri-Valley League team when CIF playoff brackets are released on Sunday. The Warriors have one regular season game remaining on Wednesday.
