Vaqueros repelled on final possession

SBCC had two chances in the last 25 seconds of Saturday night’s men’s basketball game but couldn’t convert and L.A. Pierce held on for a 65-63 WSC North triumph in Woodland Hills.

Richard Somdah led the Vaqueros (7-16, 3-5) with 13 points and nine rebounds and Chris Vines had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Malik Bradley added 11 points and three assists for SBCC, which led 31-29 at intermission.

The Vaqueros were outshot 46 to 33 percent and made just 16-25 from the free-throw line.
SBCC freshman Jared Green tied the score at 63 with a basket at the 1:11 mark. The Brahmas (7-15, 4-5) went ahead 65-63 on a bucket with 25 seconds left.

After missing a shot, the Vaqueros fouled but Pierce missed the front end of a 1-and-1. SBCC got the rebound with 3.8 seconds left, then had to go the length of the court and failed to get a shot off.

The Vaqueros travel to Ventura on Saturday for a 5 p.m. game.
