UCSB begins homestand swinging hard

The No. 65-ranked UCSB men’s tennis team notched its first home win of the season, defeating No. 48-ranked Hawaii 5-2 to open a six-match home stand.

The Gauchos are coming off a tough three-match road swing in which they lost their final two matches against California and Santa Clara after sweeping UC Davis in their conference opener.

Santa Barbara displayed impressive depth in singles, winning four of six matches despite losing at courts No. 1 and No. 2. Taylor Chavez-Goggin made quick work of Jeremy Tweedt winning 6-1, 6-1 at court No. 3 and Mathieu Forget defeated Jon Brooklyn 6-2, 6-0 at court No. 4.

In doubles, Chavez-Goggin and Alex Konigsfeldt rallied to defeat Leo Rosenberg and Danilo Casanova 8-5 to secure the doubles point after the two teams split matches at courts No. 2 and No. 3

Up next for the Gauchos is a Big West Conference match against UC Irvine Friday, March 4 beginning at 1:30 p.m.
