Royals, Cardinals home for playoff openers

San Marcos and Bishop Diego will be hosting first-round playoff games on Wednesday as part of this year’s CIF Southern Section-Ford Championships presented by Farmers, while Dos Pueblos, Carpinteria and Laguna Blanca learned they would be traveling when CIF brackets were released on Sunday.

The Royals finished third in the Channel League and were rewarded with a home game against Bolsa Grande.

Tip-off for all games is 7 p.m.

The Cardinals won the Frontier League title and are seeded No. 2 in VI-AA. Canoga Park’s AGBU, an at-large team from the Westside League, will travel to the Brickhouse for the first-round game.

The Chargers drew Segerstrom (20-6), a team that shared the Golden West League title with Ocean View.

Carpinteria has a long drive ahead of Wednesday’s playoff opener, traveling to ninth-seeded Laguna Beach for a Division IV-A playoff game. Laguna shared the Orange Coast League title this season while the Warriors received an at-large bid.

Laguna Blanca will face a league champion in their opener as the Owls travel to Mulholland League co-champion L.A. Adventist.
