Providence Hall races past Cate

Providence Hall girls basketball coach Ariana Gnekow learned that her players are good listeners and follow directions.

Up by 10 points at halftime against Cate, Gnekow challenged her team to keep at least five points ahead of the Rams for the rest of the game. The Lions pushed the lead to 20 en route to a 45-27 victory in the regular season finale on Friday.

The win evened Providence Hall’s record at 9-9, and the school plans to petition for a CIF playoff berth. The Lions play a freelance schedule.

Faith Emerson scored 12 points, Lacey Gonzalez added 11 and Olivia Johnson eight with a team-high 12 rebounds.
