Gauchos blank Davis in Big West opener

DAVIS – UCSB opened Big West conference play with a 6-0 men’s tennis victory over UC Davis Saturday, kicking off a three-match Northern California road swing.

The Gauchos will take on No.19-ranked California Golden Bears at the Hellman Tennis Center on Sunday and finish the road swing against No. 65 Santa Clara on Monday.

The Gauchos won all six singles matches in straight sets bouncing back from a lopsided loss to University of San Diego in their home opener. Alex Konigsfeldt defeated Nick Lopez 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Benjamin Recknagle defeated Connor Coates 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2.

In doubles, Philip Therp and Evan Jurgenson defeated George Horowitz and Chris Aria 8-2 at court No. 3. The two remaining doubles matches were abandoned due to inclement weather.

The Gauchos next match is against Cal Sunday, Feb. 20 beginning at 1 p.m.
