Emerson eases Lions into second round

Faith Emerson kept Providence Hall’s season alive on Thursday, putting forth a 21-point, 9-rebound performance in the Lions’ 43-31 victory over Coast Union in the first round of the Division VI-AA playoffs.

Emerson scored 12 of the Lions’ 18 points in the first quarter and connected on two 3-point shots.

“She’s really the one who got us going,” said Lions coach Laura Trudelle of Emerson.

Olivia Barroca served as Providence Hall’s defensive stopper.

“That just flustered the other team,” Trudelle said.

Providence Hall was victorious with only six players suited up. Hannah Park came off the bench and made a difference.

“She just brings this extra spark,” Trudelle said. “That was just an extra bonus.”

The Lions advance to the second round in their first year of CIF eligibility. Providence Hall will be traveling to the Inland Empire on Saturday to face California Lutheran at 7 p.m.
