Carpinteria turns tables on first-place Saints

Nikki Graham and Jasmine Montes de Oca combined for the game’s only goal, lifting Carpinteria over first-place Santa Clara in a physical Frontier League girls soccer match on Thursday.

Montes de Oca passed over the top of the Santa Clara defense and Graham ran on to the ball, beat a defender and the goalkeeper for the game-winner in the 73rd minute.

“Everybody stepped up and everybody played well,” said Carpinteria coach Lucy Carleton. “Everybody did their job. We lost to them 3-0 the last time. Everybody came back and worked hard.”

Carpinteria (3-5 in league) plays Grace Brethren and Fillmore next week.
