Bishop can’t get breaks, falls in wild-card game

Bishop Diego battled back from an early deficit, but the Cardinals couldn’t overcome a couple of bad breaks and dropped 4-1 decision to visiting Coachella Valley in a CIF Division 5 wild-card soccer game on Tuesday.

Bishop fell behind in the first 90 seconds, but it scored the equalizer on a penalty kick by Natalie Durtche. Annalise Morando was fouled in the box.

The Cardinals kept the pressure on Coachella Valley but they couldn’t score the go-ahead goal.

The Arabs capitalized on a couple of critical plays and took control of the match. On the first, a player broke free and scored the go-ahead goal. The Cardinals argued the player was offsides.

Coachella Valley made it 3-1 on a disputed free kick just outside the penalty area. A Bishop defender was called for a foul after a collision with an Arabs’ forward.
