Slow start costs Dos Pueblos in loss to Ventura

Ventura took advantage of a slow-starting Dos Pueblos and beat the Chargers 1-0 in a Channel League boys soccer game on Thursday.

The result leaves Ventura in first place at 3-0 in league (15-4-1 overall) while DP falls to 1-2 (13-4-2).

“Ventura came out real strong and aggressive,” DP coach Tovi Eliasen said “I’m not sure why we weren’t up to speed. They controlled the first 20 minutes and that was the difference in the game.”

“Ventura was the first to the ball,” Eliasen said. “The slow start really hurt us.”

Johnny Fisher came close to scoring on an overhead shot, but the Ventura goalkeeper made the save.

In the 70th minute, the Chargers thought they had a shot roll across the goal-line, but the referee didn’t agree.
