San Marcos comeback falls short against No. 2 Montebello

San Marcos ran up against a tough Montebello defense and suffered a 12-8 nonleague loss on Thursday at Santa Barbara High’s pool.

“Montebello’s defense was very physical and resulted in several turnovers,” San Marcos coach Chuckie Roth.

After falling behind 6-2 at halftime, the Royals improved their play in the second half.

“We came out a little slow as Montebello countered very quickly,” Roth said. “We were competitive, howeve,r they are just a really good team. As the game progressed we never went away and kept chipping away at their lead.”

Rose Koper scored three goals and Brittny Hummel had two to lead the Royals. Goalie Alex Brown had eight saves and two steals.
